Benny was a bright boy but no one knew it because he was quiet. So quiet that he was seldom thought to be there. But Benny was a bright boy. What do you think Jen asked of Bob, what do think of Benny. I don’t think very much of him at all said Bob. He is very odd. That is what I thought too, Jen replied. But lately I have been thinking of him. Why? Said Bob. He wrote the address of a Bible verse on a piece of paper in Sunday School and threw it away. And threw it away? Bob questioned. Can Benny even write? Here is the address. Jen replied. 1 Corinthians 16:22. I don’t know that address said Bob. Neither do I agreed Jen. Our teacher said we should learn Bible verses so maybe Benny was trying to learn this one. Said Bob. Maybe, Jen replied but he threw THREW it away like with a purpose. Our teacher said we should learn Bible verses to learn about God. Bob asserted. Maybe we should learn this one. It is not a verse the teacher gave us. Said Jen. Aw Jen! Bob chided. Our teacher can’t give us everything, besides what can it hurt, it is in the Bible. I don’t know. Our teacher probably chooses the best ones for us to learn and leaves the rest out. Replied Jen. But what is our teacher leaving out? Bob said with an air of curiosity and opened his Bible. Sword drill expert that I am, here it is. “If anyone does not love the Lord, let them be accursed, Maranatha.” That is it? Said Jen. That is it. Well it must mean something special. Continued Jen. And she and Bob tucked it away in their memories. And Benny smiled.

Next week in Sunday School the teacher explained the Bible was a rule book for Christian living and learning Bible verses gave us insight into God’s character and how we should live to please him. Bob and Jen listened and purposed to please God. The teacher then explained that there were children in Bob and Jen’s school that did not love the Lord and asked them what should happen. Bob and Jen looked at each other and shouted out in unison. “Let them be accursed.” The teacher was shocked. But Benny smiled.

Benny was a bright boy but no one knew it because he was quite. So quiet that he was seldom thought to be there. But Benny was a bright boy. Where is Benny asked Jen. Bob looked around, not here again this week. I wish he would come back Jen replied. I learned a lot from that Bible verse he threw away. So did I said Bob. Benny was the best teacher.
